This workshop will equip providers with practical strategies and resources to further develop their Mindful Self-Compassion-based practice to include Transgender & Gender Diverse-affirming care.

This workshop was designed for medical and mental health professionals as well as wellness providers who want to learn more about incorporating MSC into the services they offer to Transgender & Gender Diverse clients.

Integrating MSC into Transgender & Gender Diverse Care

Presented By Amanda di Bartolomeo & Regina Chopp

Amanda (she/her), as a clinical psychologist, has been involved in training mental health professionals in Transgender & Gender Diverse-affirming care and in the direct provision of such care for over fifteen years. She is a graduate of CMSC's Self-Compassion In Psychotherapy (SCIP) program and a facilitator for SCIP reflective practice groups. Regina (they/them) is also a clinical psychologist with both professional experience in providing Transgender & Gender Diverse-affirming care and lived experience as a trans non-binary person.


Workshop Details

In this workshop, participants will learn: 

• Differences between gender, sex, and sexual orientation

• Common stages of medical transition and medical vs social transition

• How to identify and challenge unconscious bias and stereotypes

• MSC practices for soothing gender dysphoria and celebrating gender euphoria

• Unique needs & challenges faced by Transgender & Gender Diverse people in wellness settings

Amanda di Bartolomeo

Certified MSC Teacher

Amanda di Bartolomeo (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist and Clinical Director of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Los Angeles. Dr. di Bartolomeo is queer-identified and has a special interest in culturally responsive evidence-based therapies that integrate contextual and identity factors into treatment. Dr. di Bartolomeo has previously worked on college and university campuses in their counseling centers in outreach and prevention and clinical supervision in addition to direct care. She has been recognized by the American Group Psychotherapy Association as a Donald T. Brown Memorial Scholarship Recipient for her work within the LGBTQIA+ communities and she volunteers with T Camp, a retreat for transgender and gender nonconforming college students in Southern California. In addition to her work at CBT Los Angeles, Dr. di Bartolomeo facilitates reflective practice groups through the CMSC Self-Compassion in Psychotherapy (SCIP) program. She lives in West Hollywood with her spouse.

Regina Chopp

Certified MSC Teacher

Regina Chopp (they/them) is an undergraduate and graduate psychology instructor. As a licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Chopp specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based interventions for the treatment of mental health disorders. Dr. Chopp is certified in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy (PAT) and has completed extensive PAT training with the Integrative Psychiatry Institute (IPI) and the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). Dr. Chopp’s extensive consulting experience has focused on pedagogy as well as helping organizations, including the FBI and the University of Southern California’s Children’s Hospital, identify and address barriers to LGBTQIA+ inclusivity. Their scholarly work has appeared in the edited volume The health of sexual minorities: Public perspectives on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations as well as in The Journal of Counseling Psychology and the Journal of Gay and Lesbian Social Services. They live in West Hollywood with their wife.

In 2024, we will be offering our Self-Compassion In Psychotherapy-evolved (SCIP-e) course. This course was designed specifically for Mental Health providers and is covers a period of six months for a deep dive into integrating a deeper level of self-compassion into your professional practice.   • What are the pertinent details on Continuing Education credits?

    Continuing Education credits are only accredited for the following Participants in the U.S.

    Psychologists: Continuing Education Credit for this program is provided by UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness. The UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This course offers 2.75 CE credit.

    Licensed MFTs, LPCCs, LEPs, LCSWs: Continuing Education Credit for this program is provided by UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness. The UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. 2.75 CE credit may be applied to your license renewal through the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. For those licensed outside California, please check with your local licensing board to determine if CE credit is accepted.

    Nurses: UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number CEP16351, for 3.36 CE credit.

    In accordance with Marketplace Facilitator/Provider laws, CMSC is now required to collect and remit sales tax on sales in some areas of the United States and Canada. This is required even as we are a registered non-profit.

  • Important Info: Mindful Self-Compassion is not a substitute for Therapy

    Our programs are designed to teach participants the tools needed to develop and cultivate a mindfulness and self-compassion practice.

    It is not a substitute for mental health care, personal therapy or medical treatment.

    Personal safety and emotional wellbeing are the foundation of self-compassion training and you are primarily responsible for your own safety.

    Teachers and facilitators are not expected or able to provide medical and/or psychological care. Course experiences may bring up challenging memories or feelings.
